Florence and The Southside is a 3.3 mile route that takes you to one of our cities coolest urban parks. It’s also the home of two extraordinary landmarks. Florence Hardy was an amazing leader in Broward Counties women’s history. She was the first female city clerk in Ft. Lauderdale. She also was influential in the growth of Ft. Lauderdale. Inside this park that is dedicated to Florence Hardy sits the oldest standing school in Ft. Lauderdale. Southside Elementary has been around since the turn of 20th Century. It is currently in possession of the city of Ft. Lauderdale. The top floor will be the future home of Parks and Recreation, where the bottom floor will showcase a Cultural Arts Museum for Kids.
This is also the epicenter of the Inaugural Loco Rio 8k Race Series in February 2017. See you Wednesday night at 6:30 pm at Francis L. Abreu Park inside the Rio Vista neighborhood.
